Jordan Confirms Return to Spotlight,
But Not As NBA Player

August 7, 2001

Broadway – Michael Jordan admitted today that all of his hard training and pick up games with Washington Wizards players and UNC upperclassmen is not in preparation for a return to the NBA. Instead, he wants to be in shape for a starring role in the next Warner Brothers production to hit Broadway: Space Jam: The Musical.

Time/Warner will pay Jordan a reported 80% of the gross ticket receipts to reprise his role as himself. "It’s going to be a challenge to play me day in and day out," said Jordan. Another MJ, Michael Jackson, will be Jordan's understudy. Several Harlem Globetrotters have been recruited to portray such characters as Taz, Marvin the Martian, and Bugs Bunny. The roles of the other NBA players from the movie will be filled by cardboard cutouts manipulated via a series of ropes and pulleys.
